IALS Launches Creative Professional Development Series
April 3, 2012 Chicago- Who says artists have to starve? In today’s volatile marketplace artists, already accustomed to thinking creatively, may have an advantage over the rest of the population. IALS’s most recent addition, the Creative Professional Development Series, is intended to provide artists and creatives with the business skills needed to achieve financial sustainability and career success. The next event in the series, a panel entitled “Social Media for Creatives: Using Word-of-Mouth to Promote Your Work,” will take place Wednesday, April 25 from 6 to 9pm at the Hairpin Arts Center, 2800 N. Milwaukee Ave. Admission is $15 per person and includes the opportunity to network following the panel with cocktails, wine, appetizers and live music.
The social media panelists include Lehia Franklin Acox, public relations & marketing consultant; Clayton Smith, Content Manager, Gremln.com; Justyn Howard, CEO and Founder, Sprout Social; Nelson Carvajal, independent digital filmmaker. The panel will be moderated by Ryan Singer of 37signals, and online word-of-mouth expert, who was instrumental in expanding the company’s blog, “Signal vs. Noise” to over 130,000 readers. Discussions promise to be insightful, lively and engaging, with ample time for the audience to ask questions. Guests also can mix and mingle with delicious Italian appetizers by Letizia’s Fiore, wines by Telegraph, and live musical entertainment by Sandra Antongiorgi.
IALS’s professional development series includes seminars, panel discussions, workshops where artists can learn business skills, new technologies, legal issues and enhance their professional portfolios. The inaugural event of the series took place in March and included a presentation on Copyright Law by Marci Rolnik of Lawyers for the Creative Arts (LCA). The series is presented in partnership with the Logan Square Chamber of Arts and takes place at the Hairpin Arts Center, a multi-arts community space in Logan Square.
