Latino Art Exhibition Opens at I Am Logan Square
Made In Logan Square/Hecho En Logan Square is a mixed media group show featuring artwork that has been directly inspired by the rich diversity of the neighborhood. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm, at the I Am Logan Square Gallery (IALS), located at 2644 N. Milwaukee Avenue. Food and drink for the opening reception will be provided by IALS’s official gallery sponsors, Revolution Brewing and Paper Moon Pastry.
The exhibition will include graffiti art, photography, graphic art and paintings by CHema Skandal!, Kill Monster Kill, FLASH, and Francisco Rosado. The artists, most of which are longtime residents, all live in Logan Square and are Latino.
The exhibition curator, Francisco Rosado, says that he conceptualized the group show as the Logan Square Dream Artist Union, Inc. after being “inspired by living in this neighborhood as an artist for a decade and never seeing a gallery close by.” Rosado came up with the idea for the exhibition based on his vision of creating a supportive network for neighborhood artists.
“The mostly Latino section of Milwaukee Avenue, where the gallery is located, made me think of using the show as a medium to gather Latino artists of the area to showcase their art, network, and create similar events that could bring together not only artists and art lovers, but the local people that fill the city blocks around the gallery as well. This exhibition is about the need for diversity of perspectives, but also about solidarity, freedom, gathering and love for the arts.”
Made In Logan Square will be on display from May 3 to May 31, 2012. The gallery is free and open to the public on Tuesdays through Thursdays, from noon to 6 pm, and on Friday and Saturday, from noon to 4pm and by appointment. The gallery is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

I Am Logan Square hosts monthly gallery exhibitions of works by local artists and accepts exhibition proposals on a rolling basis. Participating artists and/or curators must either live or work in Logan Square to exhibit their work and priority will be given to group or collaborative shows. IALS is a local, non-profit organization that promotes and supports the arts and cultural development in Chicago’s vibrant Logan Square neighborhood. In addition to serving as Chicago’s number one resource to discover and explore the ever-expanding arts offerings and events in the Logan Square neighborhood, I Am Logan Square presents a series of arts, networking, and other special programs including the annual Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival, featuring curated art exhibitions in pop-up galleries and in establishments as well as arts activities, music, and performances along the Milwaukee Avenue corridor between California and Kimball in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood. The 2012 Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival will be presented from July 20 to July 22.
